Hello! Welcome!

I am so glad you are here to learn more about agriculture. 

My name is Sara. I am a 6th generation farmer married to a 4th generation farmer, raising the 5th generation in our three kids on my husband's family farm in northern Iowa. 

I am excited to share with you one of my greatest passions in life, the wonderful world of agriculture. 

Growing up on a small farm in Minnesota, livestock, especially cows were what filled me with joy. Still today, I am thankful that I get the joy and fulfillment out of being around these beautiful creatures. 

Besides having deep roots in agriculture, my mom is a 3rd generation teacher. Growing up in the back of my mind I thought that if I didn't go into agriculture, I would be a teacher. I love to teach and as a parent, I love watching my children learn and share so many fun and exciting moments. For us, many of those learning experiences happen on the farm.

As an educator for our regional ag in the classroom, I have seen the need to share the story of agriculture in both urban and rural America. In addition, the need for additional resources for teachers and a program that can work with each classroom's schedule. And so, There's a Farmer in My Classroom came to life. A place where kids and teachers can come to learn about agriculture and learn first-hand from a farmer, when it works best in their classroom. Whether the teacher needs 30 minutes to get caught up on a task (because teachers have so much on their plates with limited time during the same to do it) or the students need something different and exciting to learn about in their day. There's a Farmer in My Classroom is here to serve both the educators and students.

I hope as we go through the school year, this is a program that everyone can find joy in and have more insight into agriculture and the food that is on our tables.
